In a bold act of solidarity, men of Emuri Village in Nadroga moved swiftly to clear debris from the main Irish crossing after Tropical Cyclone Vaianu cut off access.
Led by Kitione Daniva, villagers began work early, refusing to wait for outside help as floodwaters from the Emuri River made the crossing impassable.
With about 100 residents affected, the blocked route threatened access to hospitals, workplaces, and schools. By midday Tuesday, the determined effort paid off — restoring a vital lifeline and proving the power of community action in the face of disaster.
