We thank him for keeping his promise to his family, his country and to God.
These were the words of proud father Apimeleki Nasalo whose son Napolioni Ratu Bolaca was part of the winning team that made history by becoming the only sevens team to win back to back gold medals at the Olympic Games in Tokyo, Japan.
Mr Nasalo was elated to celebrate his 23-year-old son who was instrumental in bringing home Fiji’s second gold medal.
“From a very young age he had set his dreams on wearing the Fiji sevens jersey,” he said.
“When he told me he wanted to play rugby we supported him and never doubted his commitment to the game. And when he got the call, he told us that the Olympic Games gold was his ultimate goal.”
That goal, was realised on July 28 at Tokoyo Stadium by beating New Zealand 27- 12 in the final.
Mr Nasalo said his son has made their family and his country proud.
“His commitment to his game and his God took him through to the Olympics.
“We are very happy and very proud to watch and support him in this journey.”
