THERE is a certain shipping company providing shipping services to the Lau Group, which I feel is overcharging passengers’ boat fares.
A trip from Suva to an island in the Lau Group costs $180 per person, and on top of that, a small meal costs $5 and a cup of tea costs $2. Most passengers that board this boat travel for a few days before they reach their destinations.
If a person is travelling to the furthest island in the Lau Group, he/she will have to spend at least around $500 on a trip, which, from any like-minded person’s view, is daylight robbery.
Could the powers that be look into this matter, since most people that live in this archipelago barely have a regular source of income, most of whom rely on the sea.
