THE charred shell of the former Great Council of Chiefs complex will remain as it is until insurance payments are received.
In response to queries from The Fiji Times, the iTaukei Trust Fund Board said it would decide on a way forward for the Vale ni Bose once payment was received.
The once iconic symbol of iTaukei culture was destroyed by fire on December 11, 2019, the destruction labeled a cultural tragedy by many locals.
The National Fire Authority said the blaze was caused by a lit mosquito coil but former chief fire officer Josefa Rainima said a fire of the magnitude that destroyed the complex would have to have been aided by a ‘catalyst.’
The TTFB said the complex was properly insured.
“For the last four weeks, iTaukei Trust Fund Board has been collating information and documentations required by the iInsurance Company,” the board said.
“This has been completed and information submitted to the insurance Company.”
The board said damage costs are yet to be determined as the insurance claim process was still on-going.
