IT was an impressive display of courage and skill in the ring by Fiji’s featherweight champion, Junior Binnu Singh, as he fought for the WBA Oceania Super Bantamweight title at the Vodafone Arena in Suva on Saturday.

Despite his best efforts, the 25-year-old from Bilalevu, Sigatoka, fell just short of victory in a closely contested bout that ended in a split points decision in favor of Australia’s Runqi Zhou.

Singh entered the ring with determination, immediately making an impact by rattling Zhou in the opening round and even causing a cut on his forehead.

However, Zhou showcased his resilience and kept up the pressure, refusing to back down throughout the match.

The main event delivered on its promise as both fighters engaged in a thrilling exchange of punches, often trading blow for blow.

Despite Singh’s tenacity, the Australian boxer continued to press forward.

In other matches of the night, New Zealand’s Oliver Firth secured the NZPBC Oriental Pacific title with a fifth-round TKO victory over Samuela Nagari.

Ratu Rakuro Daunivavana claimed a unanimous points decision win over Samisoni Gonewai, while Josefa Takayawa defeated Frederick Chand with a first-round TKO.

Additionally, Krishna Mudaliar emerged victorious with a technical knockout win over Mathew Michael in their Super Middleweight contest, prompting the referee to halt the fight after just 2 minutes in the first round when Michael’s trainer threw in the towel.
