To the Finance Minister and his family, social media critics and rumours are just noises and do not bother them at all.

Prof Biman Prasad set the record straight that his wife, Dr Rajni Chand, is not associated with the Pacific Polytech Institute at all.

“All these social media commentaries is completely false, she has nothing to do with Pacific Polytech,” said Prof Prasad.

He said Dr Chand was, however, a former trustee of the Global Girmit Institute, which was responsible for organising the Girmit Conference and that the $200,000 allocation for the organisation of the conference that was quickly talked about by politicians, was approved by the Cabinet.

Prof Prasad clarified that the funds were documented and followed the proper channels.

He also blamed past politicians for these “uncalled-for” attacks on his family.

“The audited report for the Girmit Conference has been provided to the Ministry of Finance, it’s all there.

“So, all these attacks on this very innocent woman, who stands in her own right, were just pathetic, a show of gutter level politics by those who raised it outside of Parliament and some irrelevant politicians as well.”
