Fiji now has an open political environment that promotes freedom, said Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance Prof Biman Prasad while speaking last week at the book Road to Parliament, a memoir of Harish Sharma.
He said Fiji does not want to repeat the kind of governance Fiji has had over the recent past.
“We have freed Fiji from the shackles of restrictions of the media, suppression of free speech and rights of our workers,” he said.
“Of course the freedom has allowed people to vociferously attack and accuse the coalition government of many things. Most of it are malicious, defamatory and at times quite hilarious.”
“But this doesn’t mean that government clamps down on freedoms.”
