There’s no reason for Dan Biggar to be so bashful about his distinctive pre-kicking routine now that the musical combo who unwittingly helped the Wales flyhalf become an internet dance sensation have publicly backed the performance.
After Biggar slotted all eight of his attempts at goal in Wales’ Pool A win over England, a video emerged of his idiosyncratic build-up to hoofing the ball set to La Macarena, Los Del Rio’s amazingly infectious dancefloor filler from the 1990s. The clip has been viewed more than a million times.
“I think if I’d have known the reaction to it, I would have just kept my head down and hands down by my side,” Biggar said of the brouhaha two weeks ago.
But when From the Touchline tracked down Los Del Rios, they were most complimentary and urged Biggar to keep doing what he does best. “It’s very nice,” said Rafael Ruiz, spokesperson for the Spanish combo, of Biggar’s twitchy shimmying and shaking. Informed the routine had beendubbedThe Biggarena, Ruiz added that it was “fun and original”.
