In an impressive start to the Extra Premier League season, defending champions Rewa FC delivered a commanding performance to defeat Tailevu Naitasiri FC 4-0.
The match showcased Rewa’s dominance and set a confident tone for their campaign ahead.
Patrick Joseph opened the scoring in the 30th minute of the first half, igniting the crowd and giving Rewa the early advantage.
Mosese Nabose doubled the lead just ten minutes later, striking in the 40th minute to bolster the champions’ control going into halftime.
Rewa continued their offensive pressure in the second half with Semi Matalau scoring in the 35th minute, followed swiftly by a goal from Solomon player Norman Ngahu in the 36th minute, sealing an emphatic win for the home side.
Rewa FC coach Priyant Manu expressed gratitude and pride in his team’s performance.
“First of all, I would like to thank God Almighty for his goodness towards the team,” Manu said.
“I think we showed today what Rewa is all about—a calm, professional performance. Despite the opposition’s hype on social media all week, we stayed humble, kept calm, and delivered a much better performance.”
Manu highlighted areas for improvement, particularly in managing the midfield and reducing offsides, acknowledging the team’s ongoing rebuilding process with many young players integrating into the squad.
He also spoke positively about the new youth quota policy, which is providing promising opportunities for Fiji’s football future.
“Our message to the players was simple: take it game by game. We have 18 games to play, and we treat each as a final,” Manu said.
“The young boys need exposure playing in front of the crowd, and this win is a good step forward.”
On the other side, Tailevu Naitasiri FC coach Shabneel Prasad acknowledged his team’s preparation but cited a setback that impacted their performance.
“We prepared well for this match, but unfortunately, three of our key players couldn’t play despite training due to a technical error with the officials,” Prasad explained.
“We were competitive in the first quarter but fell away afterwards. We will come back stronger in our next match.”
With this strong start, Rewa FC aims to continue their quest for the title, building on their professional display and maintaining focus throughout the season.
Fans are encouraged to keep supporting the team as they embark on this exciting journey.
