Big day for Nadro players

THE 14 suspended Nadroga football players accused for consuming alcohol and allegedly involving in match fixing will know their fate later today.

Nadroga Football Association president Vijay Singh said the players were supposed to face the disciplinary committee to defend their case.

The players are alleged to have broken the camp and were involved in a drinking party, the night before the match against Suva during the 2016 Vodafone Fiji FACT.

“The players had been suspended and further fined $5000. They will have to appear before the committee to defend their cases,” he said.

“It is a public affair and we are answerable to the people of Nadroga for the dismal performance in the last match against Suva.

“If the players do not appear then the committee will make their verdict.”

Nadroga lost to Suva 0-6 in the final pool match at Subrail Park in Labasa on June 19.

The players are Parmesh Prasad, Josefa Malakai, Simione Naulivou, Simione Damuni, Sajneel Sharma, Gerard Voi, Joeli Navalawa, Ravneet Chand, Semesa Sacere, Taniela Raubula, Krishneel Dutt, Masake Nabuli, Sunny Deol and Ratuvita Dovibua.

“The committee is made up of two police officers and a lawyer who would hear their side of the story. There is no one bigger than Nadroga FA and we need to work together to help the association grow,” he added.

“We are placed bottom on the National League points table and my focus is on the league matches. We did not prepare well to win the Fiji FACT but the whole purpose was to groom the players for league matches.

The hearing will take place at 5pm at Fiji Sports Council office at Lawaqa Park in Sigatoka.
