Best 7s finish

TELECOM Fijiana 7s head coach Iliesa Tanivula is humbled with the achievements of his players in this year’s HSBC World Rugby Women’s Sevens Series.

The side achieved a major milestone finishing fourth this season compared with their eighth spot finish last season. And the icing to the cake was the selection of Yasawa flyer Rejieli Daveua as the Rookie of the Year.

Arriving with his band of warriors yesterday, Tanivula said the players performed beyond expectation.

He said to displace some top teams in the Top Four spot was an indication of the sacrifices, commitment and sheer hard work endured by the players.

“I am very proud of the way the girls played and I guess it’s been a long season for them,” said Tanivula.

“They have been punching above their weight and credit to them on the way they’ve worked hard and who they’ve played with and they just keep coming back.

“It is a proud moment for the girls and for the team and I’m really humbled to be working with them.”

The former ABs 7s rep said he was impressed with the commitment of his players.

“Finishing fourth is a morale boost for the girls and the team and it hasn’t been easy and with the shoestring budget.”
