A DASH for the try-line at full-time by Suva rugby player and national sprinter Younis Bese yesterday was the winning score that earned her team a spot in the final of the Subrails Marama Cup competition next week.
Suva won 36-31.
Bese made the triumphant pursuit of the try-line as points stood at a 31-all deadlock which had been equalised following an unconverted try by Suva.
Once Bese’s try was confirmed, the final hooter went off as Suva players on the sidelines celebrated a hard-fought victory.
Suva coach Saiasi Koroi attributed their success towards the maintenance of their discipline and their commitment towards ensuring they got the basics right.
“The strength was working together as a team, as a whole so we knew Kadavu would come today (yesterday) and we just do our part, do the basics right, listen to the referee’s call,” Koroi mentioned.
He acknowledged Kadavu as being a formidable team, when asked what it had been like having to face them in yesterday’s match.
“Kadavu is a good team, they are a very good team. The quality of the team is good, it’s up to this level, the semi-final so anyone can win,” he remarked.
Meanwhile, Suva last met Kadavu in round one of competition on Saturday, August 2 at Ratu Cakobau Park in Nausori and thrashed them 69-17.
Yesterday’s narrow points margin was an indication of continued growth, particularly for Kadavu.
Following yesterday’s win, Suva will face Namosi in the final next week.
