VODAFONE Fiji 7s’ multi-talented forward Pio Tuwai will be playing for some special people at the London 7s this weekend.
With the hopes of the nation resting on the shoulders of Tuwai and his gallant teammates, the skilful player is also aware that his two little angels Makirina and Joyce Tuwai will be glued to the television watching their hero in action.
Times Sports visited Tuwai’s family at Votua, Ba yesterday to interview the very people who have been supporting this soft spoken player throughout his rugby career.
Tuwai’s mother Lusia Ratulevu said their rugby hero made the family proud especially his two daughters.
She said Tuwai’s performance at the HSBC Sevens World Series has always been his daughters’ beacon of hope despite losing their mum last year.
“During the Scotland 7s last week, the girls were cheering and shouting for their dad,” said Ratulevu.
“Likewise for the rest of the family members, we are proud of Pio’s achievement and we never miss watching him on TV.
“He will always be our hero even if the team loses.”
Ratulevu said the win in Scotland was one of the best Mother’s Day presents she had received from her son.
“He called us before the Scotland 7s and wished me well for Mother’s Day.”
“Pio also had the opportunity of talking to his daughters and vowed to give his best for them.”
The Tuwai family has also sent their best wishes to the team as they prepare for the final leg of the series.
“We wish the boys all the best and we are optimistic they will do the country proud again this weekend.”
Meanwhile, the side is expected to play their hearts out for France-bound Semi Kunatani. A win would be a fitting farewell for this year’s top try scorer.
The side is pooled with Canada, Argentina and Samoa.
Fiji’s first game against Argentina kicks off at 9.06pm.
