Heavy security measures will be in place for the upcoming South Pacific Boxing Promotion event next month, according to promoter Freddy Chand.

The decision comes after a scuffle between two boxers and their cornermen during last month’s event, leading to the suspension of two top boxers in the country.

Chand emphasised the need to prevent such occurrences in the future.

He said only registered boxers and cornermen would be allowed in the ring on October 26, with each boxer permitted to have one trainer and a cut man if they hold a license with the Boxing Commission of Fiji (BCF).

To ensure the safety of all participants and attendees, Chand reassured us that heavy security would be present at the event.

“A total of 30 private security personnel, along with 25 police officers, will be on the ground to maintain order and prevent any disturbances,” said Chand.

“I think we will be working very closely regarding this issue if a boxer doesn’t have registered trainers, he will not be allowed to go inside the ring.”

This is the thing we want to clarify now, so get your team registered only four people will be there, never mind you have a 20 people member with reset tickets, but as some of the boxers usually do, they buy hundreds of ringside tickets but only four will be in the corner on the day of the boxing.

“An international IBO referee will be in Fiji for the event to assist the local officials and referees.

“This collaborative effort aims to enhance the overall professionalism and safety of the event.”

The South Pacific Boxing Promotions event will showcase three title fights at Prince Charles Park in Nadi on October 26.
