FIJI Boxing Commission chairman Adi Narayan is still awaiting an official date and venue from Bluewater Boxing promoter Samir Khan for the rematch fight between overseas fighter Ryan Roberts and Fiji’s Kolinio Luvelolo.
The fight was promised to fans as a way to make up for the disruption caused during their event at Prince Charles Park in Nadi last month.
The highly anticipated Masa South Pacific Light Heavyweight title fight was cut short by Police enforcing the 11pm cut-off time stated in the event permit.
Narayan explained that the delay was caused by four additional bouts that were not part of the original schedule but were added at the last minute.
These bouts included a veteran fight, a female bout, and other supporting matches.
The BCF chair emphasised the importance of abiding by the law and the consequences of not doing so, stating that the Boxing Commission was not at fault for the disruption.
Despite seeing Khan’s posts on social media about organising the rematch fight, Narayan emphasised that the commission has not received any official confirmation from him.
“We saw on social media that he is going to put up the fight, but he has to give us a date and venue, the commission has not received anything official from him, so we are waiting for him to confirm officially,” said Narayan.
He expressed the need for Khan to provide more information, particularly a confirmed date for the fight.
Narayan also raised concerns about the practicality of hosting only two fights and expecting a crowd to attend, highlighting the financial challenges associated with such a setup.
“I believe its two fights, not sure if he will be having more fight with that, for my personal opinion having a two fight and you book a venue, going through all the expenses it will be hard.
“So, it’s for the promoter to answer all those questions, having only two fights and expecting a crowd to watch only two fights will not be practical.”
While the focus is currently on the upcoming Kings Boxing Promotion by promoter Nahroon Buksh on November 1, Narayan is still waiting for Khan to address these questions and provide official details about the rematch fight.
As the commission chairman, he stressed the importance of proper planning and communication in organising boxing events to ensure a successful and enjoyable experience for fighters and fans alike.
