Cricket Fiji has set its focus on more development programs to enhance and promote the sport.

Cricket Fiji tournament director Sitiveni Rokoro said there was a lot of emphasis done on developing the sport on outer islands and rural areas.

He made the comment yesterday during the Easter Championship in Suva.

“This is to revive the sport and get people back into playing cricket after the COVID-19 pandemic restrictions,” Rokoro said.

“We’ll focus on the next phase of development which is our High Performance Unit to prepare our men and women national teams.

“This does not stop us from continuing with our grassroots programs which includes school and community clinics. “We were in Lakeba, Lau for development last year after the COVID-19 restrictions were lifted.

“We organised the T10 Bula Bash cricket competition for the entire island associations including Rotuma.”

Meanwhile, Moce remains as the team to beat in the competition. The island side has recorded four wins after day five and is closely followed by Komo and defending champion, Suva Warriors.

The Cricket Fiji Invitational side and Western Wingmen are not far behind in the race to the quarter-finals this week.

In Pool Two, Suva Crusaders, Nadi Jets and Oneata are tied at the top with 11 points each with Ono-i-Lau not far behind.

“It will be an interesting day of pool games tomorrow (today) to see who top the pool and who will make the cup quarter-finals.”
