EIGHTY per cent of breaches in the Asia-Pacific region are caused by system inclusions with credentials being sold on the dark web, according to Field CISCO and head of Cybersecurity Product Philippines Telco Alexis Bernardino.

Speaking at the recent Top Executive (TOPEX) conference at the Sofitel Fiji Resort and Spa in Nadi last week, Mr Bernardino said this underscored the importance of basic cybersecurity hygiene, such as locking down wireless networks.

“Your credentials are exposed in the dark web,” Mr Bernadino said.

“They’re selling it.

“2018, I started the cyber-SWAT team. Their job is to go to the dark web, look at the dark web. If you’re being talked to a group of companies in general.”

Mr Bernardino said a general sweep of the dark web by the cyber swat team revealed a hundred usernames and passwords as well as the IP for his organisation’s global admin being sold at the dark web for $10.

“Global IP and super user access to our critical server, critical apps being sold in the Russian market for $10.

“According to Cybercrime intelligence in 2025, Fiji organisations will be targeted, and I heard yesterday that some of you are already experiencing it.”

Mr Bernardino said all organisations in the region will be targeted by cyber attacks and must be prepared to respond quickly and effectively.
