Celebrating its 117th anniversary, Bank of Baroda (BOB) has over 100,000 accounts in Fiji.

The bank celebrated its anniversary with a series of events and contributions highlighting its longstanding presence and contributions to Fiji.

During the anniversary celebrations at Suva’s Kshatriya Hall, Bank of Baroda underscored its commitment to corporate social responsibility by donating wheelchairs to CWM Hospital, planting mangrove seedlings in Nasese, and organizing a walkathon.

Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka, who was chief guest at the celebrations last night praised the bank’s achievements, noting its significant impact on Fiji’s economic and social landscape over the past 63 years since its establishment in 1961.

“The Bank has a strong international presence with a network across 17 countries,” Mr Rabuka said.

“It has a rich legacy of 117 years that has stayed ahead of the curve by embracing innovation and constantly reinventing itself to earn the trust and patronage of its customers and other key stakeholders.

“Our celebration, must begin by honouring the founder of Bank of Baroda, Maharaj Sayajirao, who on July 20, 1908, established a bank with a vision to be a beneficial agency for lending, transmission, and deposit of money, and a powerful factor in the development of art, industries, and commerce of Baroda and adjoining territories.”

Mr Rabuka commended the bank for its global reputation, emphasizing its role in fostering economic development and customer trust through continuous innovation and adaptation.

And as such he announced the establishment of a Banking Ombudsman as part of governmental reforms to enhance customer service and dispute resolution within the banking sector.

Founded by Maharaj Sayajirao in 1908 with a vision to support financial activities and promote regional development, Bank of Baroda has evolved into India’s second-largest public sector bank and maintains a robust international network spanning 17 countries.

With a global customer base exceeding 165 million, the bank offers a seamless banking experience through its extensive digital platforms and over 70,000 touch points worldwide.

The anniversary’s theme, “Trusted Today, Transforming Tomorrow,” reflected Bank of Baroda’s ongoing commitment to becoming a world-class financial institution rooted in a century-old legacy of customer trust and service excellence.
