FIVE hundred students in primary and secondary schools were able to start school this year with the kind assistance from BSP Finance Group Ltd (BSP).
The bank gifted $25,000 to the Foundation for the Education of Needy Children (FENC Fiji) in assisting children with their back to school needs.
FENC Fiji used the assistance to get stationery packs for students in primary and secondary school. BSP Country head Haroon Ali said the bank was pleased to partner with a trusted charity that was dedicated to breaking the cycle of poverty by investing in the education of children in Fiji.
“By supporting their education, we aim to empower these children to have better employment opportunities that will have multiple effects on their families,” he said.
The bank, through FENC Fiji, helped many families by alleviating the pressures of back to school preparations. “As a socially responsible bank, we support this program as it helps families experiencing poverty to access education assistance,” he said.
“We view this donation as a transformational gift with immediate and long-term benefits for the children, their families and the nation in terms of each FENC beneficiary improving their prospects for economic security in the future”. He also acknowledged the effort by FENC Fiji officials and volunteers.
“We are grateful to our partners at FENC Fiji as they carry out the extensive work in ensuring recipients throughout Fiji, including rural and remote locations get this support”.
The foundation’s Board of Trustees founder and chairperson John Samy said BSP has been a loyal partner of the foundation since its inception and even during COVID-19.
“Funding from generous donours, such as BSP enables us to carry on assisting deserving families who value their children’s education by supporting them to achieve good results,” Mr Samy said.
