THE University of the South Pacific  is working closely with the Ministry of Women, Children and Poverty Alleviation in organizing the Bands by the Beach annual charity event next month in Suva.

While launching the event yesterday  the Permanent Secretary for Women, Children and Poverty Alleviation, Jennifer Poole said this collaboration with USP is unique because it establishes grounds for connectedness with the people, defining a proactive measure to ignite change which also makes a positive impact in the community by providing people with a renewed sense of hope.

Ms Poole emphasized the importance to learn from institutions & organizations in Fiji that are engaging, as part of their Corporate  Social Responsibility (CSR) to give back to the community, and in particular the University of the South Pacific (USP) Community Outreach team.

“The proceeds from the charity event will be distributed equally to the children’s homes and the non-governmental organizations therefore this is all part of the move to building a better future for our Fijian families,” Ms Poole said.

Meanwhile Group Manager  USP Campus Life, Glen Pope said that over the years, under USP’s community engagement initiative they have responded during natural disasters and when the need arose.

He said the Bands by the Beach initiative will include a host of live bands and individuals who will entertain the crowd on the day.

He stated that general tickets will be sold at $15 for adults (children under 12 years – free entry), special VIP tickets at $110 and also ‘early bird special’ tickets sold at $10.

“The charity event will be held on Saturday 29th June from 2pm – 8pm at the USP Marine Campus Foreshore in Suva.
