Ballu to officiate at Vanuatu Pacific Mini Games

AJAY Ballu will officiate as a judge for archery in the 2017 Pacific Mini Games in Vanuatu in December.

Ballu, who is the Fiji Archery Association secretary, officiated at the 2003 South Pacific Games (SPG) in Suva and at the 2011 Pacific Games in Samoa and the Australian Nationals.

“I have officiated at a couple of competitions as a technical official in 2003 and 2011 and have attended some training. I am looking forward to the competition in Vanuatu,” Ballu said.

“I am the only Pacific islander who has been called to officiate at the Pacific Mini Games and from here I am looking forward to the other competitions such as Pacific Games in Samoa in 2019.

“I have been in the sport from 1999 and it has been 18 years where I have been officiating in domestic competitions including the Oceania Games in Tonga last year.”

Ballu was a national football player. He represented Fiji in the under-16 team in 1984 and also played for Suva as a left midfielder. He was also an archer.

“I attended a course in Sydney, Australia in 2015 and my aim is to officiate at the top level internationally,” he said.

The Pacific Mini Games will be held from December 4-15.
