Minister for Fisheries and Forestry Alitia Bainivalu has acknowledged growing public frustration with national leadership, saying she entered public service to serve the people of Fiji, not politics or power.
In a social media statement, Ms Bainivalu said she understood the disappointment many Fijians were feeling amid recent developments and said such concerns should not be ignored.
“So much has been happening in our country, and I know many of you are feeling disappointed, frustrated and even let down,” she said.
“Many placed their hope in leadership to be the change, and when current events challenge that hope, the disappointment is real.”
Ms Bainivalu said she did not take public trust lightly and stressed that leadership required accountability and listening.
“Leadership is not about staying silent or dismissing concerns. It is about listening, being accountable and doing better. I hear you, and I remain committed to being part of the change you believed in,” she said.
Ms Bainivalu said her commitment to integrity and accessibility would not waver despite challenging times.
“I entered public service to serve people, not politics or power,” she said.
“Trust is rebuilt through action, and I am committed to earning yours every day.”
