The High Court in Lautoka has deferred the bail hearing for a man accused of murdering a prominent doctor in Nadi last year.

Ratu Peceli Rosotokaicake Rokoravolo appeared before Justice Aruna Aluthge yesterday charged with one count of murder.

It is alleged that between August 31 and September 1, 2025, Mr Rokoravolo murdered Dr Isireli Biumaitotoya in his home in Nadi.

Prosecutor Joeli Nasa informed the court that the State would be filing a pre-trial conference checklist to streamline the number of witnesses.

The court heard that a trial date has already been fixed for the first and second weeks of July.

Addressing the issue of the accused’s caution interview, Mr Nasa suggested that if the defence intended to file voir dire grounds, the accused should first view the video recording of the interview.

Mr Nasa told the court the video recording showed the accused acting out how he had committed the offence.

Defence lawyer Edwin Wainiqolo requested seven days to consult with his client on whether they would challenge the admissibility of the interview through voir dire proceedings.

Mr Nasa confirmed the State had received the bail affidavit but would be filing an affidavit in opposition by the close of business tiday. He also confirmed the State would object to bail.

Justice Aluthge adjourned the matter to March 24 for the bail hearing and substantive matter.
