THE Fiji Court of Appeal has dismissed a bid for bail by Solomoni Qurai, who is serving life sentence for the 2006 murder of Mohammed Azim Khan, ruling the application “frivolous” and without legal basis.
Qurai, whose life sentence was imposed without remission, had already seen his conviction and sentence upheld by both the Court of Appeal and the Supreme Court.
Justice Isikeli Mataitoga said the application was misleading, noting there was no pending appeal before the court.
“When the Supreme Court refused the appellant’s special leave application and affirmed the Court of Appeal’s judgment, that was the end of the matter,” Justice Mataitoga ruled on January 21, marking the closure of Qurai’s legal avenues for appeal.
