AFTER finishing seventh in the final standings at the 2019 Oceania Badminton Championship in Melbourne last week, Team Fiji will put into practice the lessons learnt as they prepare for the Samoa Pacific Games.

Team member Andra Whiteside said the team gained enough exposure from tough competition that would help them better their preparations for July.

“Despite not getting the results we hoped to achieve, there were certainly positives we can take moving forward to our main target, the Pacific Games. “With any international tournament I try to keep learning and growing as an athlete particularly from a technical standpoint.

It has taught us a lot on how we maintain certain pressures and what could have been done better, especially with the Pacific Games around the corner,” said Whiteside.

The national team have taken a one-week break to recover and will resume training this week.

“Continuity in working on fitness is important at this stage in order to maintain consistency throughout the week of competition at the Pacific Games.

“In addition we will need more on court sessions which will be essential to put into practice the lessons learned from the Oceania Championships and increasing precision in our shot play.

“Overall, there were a few results displayed by Team Fiji which we were happy about,” said Whiteside.
