Bad weather to affect the country until late Sunday – Fiji Met

Isolated heavy rain in the next couple of days may lead to flash flooding of low lying and flood prone areas, states the Fiji Meteorological Service.

A heavy rain alert is now in force for the whole of Fiji group.

The Nadi weather office states an active trough of low pressure lies over the Fiji group and associated cloud and rain will affect the country until later Sunday.

Possible impacts include flash flooding of some low-lying informal settlements and communities, businesses and iris crossing leading to disruption to traffic flow.

There will be surface flooding on streets, particularly in urban areas with poor drainage system.

Significant rainfall for past 24 hours at 5:30am were as follows:

– Udu point – 84mm

– Nadarivatu – 50mm

– Lomaivuna – 86.5mm

– Penang – 48mm

– Monasavu – 56.5mm

– Nasinu – 72.5mm
