Minister for Information, Lynda Tabuya in Parliament yesterday – FIJI PARLIAMENT

LYNDA Tabuya has finally addressed her fall from grace last year, telling Parliament it was a personal matter that became public.

In her first speech to the House since her appointment as Information Minister, Ms Tabuya spoke candidly yesterday about the controversy that led to her sacking.

“What happened last year was personal. It became public,” she said.

“It was not political, but its consequences were.

“I do not hide from it, but I do not carry it like a wound. I carry it like a lesson – a lesson in humility, in boundaries, and in what it means to hold public trust.”

Ms Tabuya said her return to Cabinet came with “humility, reflection, and an unshakable commitment to serve”.

“If I speak with more clarity today, it is because I have learned what it means to be misinterpreted.

“If I seem more determined, it is because I now know what it means to be given a second chance – not just by the Prime Minister, but by the people.”

She described her comeback as both an honour and a responsibility.

“I rise today not just with pride, but with purpose.

“The honour of returning to Cabinet as Minister for Information is not lost on me.”

Ms Tabuya was dismissed from Cabinet following a widely publicised personal matter.

Her return has been met with mixed public reaction, with some questioning the decision.

Yesterday marked the first time she addressed the issue formally in the House.
