On this day in 1980, three stories were published on the front page of The Fiji Times.
The main story was a world story titled Japan stunned by spy scandal which is about the arrest of a retired Japanese major-general and two defence force officers for allegedly leaking classified information to the Soviet Union.
There was also a picture story of the late Prime Minister, Ratu Kamisese Mara during his visit to the Monasavu hydro-electricity scheme project.
The third story is of the investigation of a woman who died apparently of lysol poisoning.
