FRESH off a 7-0 victory against Suva in their opening match yesterday, the Labasa women’s football team will not leave any stone unturned when they face Rewa in their second Fiji FA Women’s Inter-District Championship match today.
Head coach Roneel Ram acknowledged the Delta Tigress’ as a formidable side, in light of the notable players in their line-up.
“I believe the Rewa-Labasa match will be a tough match for us, especially knowing that Rewa has got a number of national reps in the team,” Ram explained.
“They are blessed to have two players who have also been playing overseas; that’s (Maria) Veronika and Adi Litia (Bakaniceva). They have been playing for Hekari (United).”
Hekari United FC is a professional football club based in Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea.
“They are going to be a tough opponent and our girls will once again try their best to get the maximum points in the game,” Ram added.
His sentiments on this came after his side began their campaign on a high note against Suva.
Goals for the Babasiga ladies varied, with Unaisi Tuberi shooting in two goals, Aastha Sharma with another two, Sofi Diyalowai with two of her own and Shayal Sindhika with one.
Ram said their victory was a reward considering the efforts to regroup the team after the long Christmas and New Year break and the school holidays.
He attributed a notable display of teamwork and communication as key elements in their first win against Suva, a team he said was a formidable opponent.
Labasa will face Rewa at 1pm today at the Fiji FA Academy grounds in Vatuwaqa, Suva.
