THE Ba women’s team was crowned the champions of the Royal Tea Ranadi Trophy after defeating Macuata 47-30 in a thrilling showdown at Lawaqa Park in Sigatoka yesterday.
The team’s triumph not only secured the Trophy but also earned them a place in next year’s highly anticipated Marama Cup competition.
The match began with both teams showcasing outstanding defensive strategies, creating an intense and captivating atmosphere.
The Newworld IGA-sponsored side seized the lead in the first half with a commanding score of 19-10, setting the stage for an exhilarating second half.
In the latter half of the game, Ba displayed exceptional teamwork and fluid ball movement, which ultimately led to their well-deserved victory.
Team manager Malakai Vukinavanua expressed his gratitude and attributed the team’s success to their hard work and dedication in the lead-up to the final.
He commended the players for their relentless efforts and outstanding performance on the field, highlighting their teamwork and resilience in the face of challenges.
“First of all I like to thank the almighty for the win, the girls have really worked hard throughout the week, for this final, and im proud of their performance today (yesterday),” said Vukinavanua.
While acknowledging the formidable competition presented by Macuata, Vukinavanua praised their opponents for a well-fought game
“Hats off to the Macuata side they gave us a good game, first half they pressured, and i told the girls to be patient with the ball and work as a team.”
He encouraged the Ba team to remain patient and focused, emphasising the importance of unity and collaboration in achieving their goals.
Despite facing financial obstacles and the physical demands of traveling from Ba, the team’s determination and unity propelled them to victory.
Vukinavanua extended his appreciation to the players for their exceptional performance, dedication during training, and teamwork, attributing their success to their unwavering commitment.
