Ba Football Association launches 80th anniversary book

BOOK number one of the limited edition documenting the 80-year history of Ba Football Association (Ba FA) was auctioned for $1200.

Fiji Football Association president Rajesh Patel snapped up the only book officially signed by Ba’s victorious 2015 Courts Inter-District Championship players, team management and former greats including Lote Delai.

The book, written by Dr Mohit Prasad, costs $50 a copy with all the funds channelled to Ba FA.

Dr Mohit said the launch of the book was timely with Ba winning a record 24th IDC title last month.

“The Ba FA was established somewhere around April in 1935,” he said.

“One of the interesting facts is that it was not until 1961 that Ba first won the IDC. So the kings of Fiji football did not achieve it until that year and putting that into context, you can see that the achievements have been greater since then.”

Dr Mohit said the book was well sourced and documented.

“Some of the stories are about the achievements of goalkeeper Laisenia Tuba being a deadly penalty taker who also held a world record for the consecutive number of appearances which has now been broken by United States international Brad Friedel who has played 310 consecutive matches in the English Premier League.

“It has ball by ball action like when Ba beat Lautoka by 11-4 and Esala Masi scored six goals,” he added. The book is on sale at the 4R Electrical and General Contractors Ltd building at Yalalevu in Ba and will be available at the bookshops around the country soon.
