Residents of Wailagi, Ba have taken to social media to highlight a growing crisis in the community, where a power outage has cut off water supply to dozens of households.
Amit Kumar said on social media repeated attempts to contact Energy Fiji Limited (EFL) had been unsuccessful, prompting him to raise the issue publicly in hopes of urgent assistance.
“The Wailagi community runs its own water supply system that feeds 40 households. Due to the current power outage, the pumps cannot operate, and the whole community is now without water,” he said.
Mr Kumar explained that the system relies on electric pumps to fill a 150,000-litre concrete tank, which distributes water to the entire community.
“This is creating serious hardship for families, including children and the elderly,” he added.
He is now calling on EFL to prioritise the area and restore power as soon as possible.
“We respectfully request EFL to give priority to Wailagi, Ba and urgently restore the power supply so the community water system can resume operation,” Mr Kumar said.
The situation comes as power disruptions continue in parts of the Western Division following damage to infrastructure caused by adverse weather.
