BA Football Club president Praneel Dayal says the hype in Ba is absolutely electric, as the 2025 FMF Inter-District Championship (IDC) kicks off today at the 4R Stadium, Govind Park in Ba.
Describing Ba as the “Soccer Crazy Town,” Dayal emphasised the profound significance of the tournament, viewing it not just as a sporting event but as a heartfelt homecoming for the community.
“The IDC is the soul of Fijian football, and its return to Govind Park after a long time is a gift. The town is buzzing; we are ready to welcome the tournament,” said Dayal.
Amidst the tournament, a carnival atmosphere has already taken over the town, coinciding with the Ba Football Association’s 90th Anniversary.
“The carnival atmosphere has already begun, this tournament coincides with the Ba Football Association’s 90th Anniversary, so we are celebrating both our proud heritage and the biggest event on the Fiji FA calendar.
“The town will be vibrant, a sea of black and white, welcoming not just local fans but all the overseas-based kaivata (people from the same district) who have made the pilgrimage back home.
“It is a chance for the entire community to gather, share old memories, and collectively cheer on their district. It’s going to be something very special.”
As Ba FC prepares to take on Navua, Dayal expresses unwavering confidence in the team’s readiness.
“The RC Manubhai Ba FA team is absolutely ready to go. The training has been intense, focused, and purposeful. We know the expectations are high, especially playing at home, and the coaching panel and players are prepared to absorb that pressure and turn it into performance.
“Our opening game against Navua is a major test. They were the finalists last year for a reason—they are a very tough, structured, and resilient team.
“We respect Navua greatly. They bring a hard-running game, and they will be looking to start their campaign strong. However, we have studied their play, and we have prepared our strategy.
“We have a good blend of experienced players and exciting young talent, and we plan to use the home advantage to the fullest. We expect a hard-fought match, but we are confident in our Men in Black.”
In a heartfelt message to fans and supporters, Dayal extends his gratitude for their unwavering passion and loyalty, emphasising their crucial role in shaping Ba Football Club’s identity.
Ba takes on Navua in its opening match at 8pm today. In other matches today, Rewa battles Nadroga at 1.30pm, Labasa takes on Nadi at 3.30pm while Suva plays Lautoka at 6pm.
