TWENTY-FOUR women farmers were honoured this week in different categories at the National Women in Agriculture Symposium Gala Awards Night.

Officiating at the event, Minister for Women and Children Sashi Kiran said women were slowly emerging as the backbone for agriculture in the country.

“When women farmers succeed, Fiji succeeds,” she said.

“When rural women earn income, poverty declines and communities become stronger,” she said.

“Tonight we are changing the narrative. These awards recognise women farmers as agricultural entrepreneurs, climate responders, food security champions and business leaders.”

Ms Kiran also highlighted the alignment between women’s participation in agriculture and national development priorities, including the Women’s Economic Empowerment National Action Plan 2025–2030 (WEE NAP), which focuses on women at work, women in business, women’s financial inclusion and women’s health and wellbeing.
