The 2025 Super Rugby season for rookies Ponipate Loganamasi and Josivini Naihamu ended on a high with the players being awarded Rookie of the Year trophies in the men and women’s category.

Ponipate who was a standout all season long, walked away with the Pepsi Men’s Rookie of the Year award while Naihamu took home the Encore Women’s Rookie of the Year.

The leading try scorer for the Drua’s men’s squad with six tries this season, Ponipate said the win was a testament to the hard work of the team.

“I want to thank God for giving always giving me strength and the talent he’s given me to come this far.

“I want to thank my teammates for their support and hard work encouraging to do my best.

“And I want to dedicate this win to my family especially my parents for their sacrifice. If it wasn’t for them, I wouldn’t be here today.”

Describing Ponipate’s season, the club praised his performance not only for Drua Rugby but for the Fiji 7s national team.

“What a year it has been for this young man. From the Olympic Silver Medal to a brilliant transition to professional rugby,” a club statement said.

Meanwhile, Naihamu, 19, said she was honored to be chosen by her coaching staff.

“I am really thankful to our coach and the management team for choosing me although I did not expect this award at all.

“I want to dedicate this award to my family. Thank you for always supporting me. Thank you for the love and prayers and for standing beside me through everything.”
