THE National Disaster Management Office has issued a public advisory for villagers close to Mt Washington on Delai Nabukelevu, Kadavu to refrain from diving in their fishing ground.

The NDMO is also pleading with villagers close by to avoid movement along Mount Washington.

“The NDMO has received reports that there are some explosions underwater,” NDMO stated.

“Villages including Nabukelevu-i-ra, Lomati, Talaulia and the nearby villages are advised to exercise caution.”

NDMO is also requesting people to stay away from all landslides that have occurred over the past few days including the Mt Washington vicinity.

“Continuous tremors or future eruption may make these areas more hazardous.

“The public are advised to remain alert and ensure that any slight damage to their house etc should be monitored,” the NDMO said.

There is a high risk if any future movement occurs, NDMO added.

“It is critical for divers to avoid going out to sea during this time while assessments are still being undertaken.

“The public has been advised to first contact the Mineral Resources Department on 3381611 or the NDMO on 3319250 before any steps are taken to clear the slip.”
