“We can’t afford to let teams go ahead with two three tries and we playing catch up rugby. We want to make sure we start well and we try and maintain our lead and put pressure on the other team.”
These were the sentiments echoed by the Fiji Airways Fiji men’s seven’s team head coach Osea Kolinisau while speaking from Cape Town in South Africa on Thursday, as the team prepares for the much-anticipated Cape Town Sevens leg today.
With the demands of the new competition format, Kolinisau understand that avoiding catch up rugby will be crucial if they are to end their sevens year losing streak in Cape Town.
Fiji will begin their Cape Town leg against hosts South Africa at 10.44 tonight, pressure will be on both teams to perform after a sub-par result in Dubai.
“They’re playing at home so they not going to give up easily, they will throw everything at us especially in the first game,” said Kolinisau.
“It’s something I’ve been talking about to the boys is to improve from last week. Especially our defense getting better on our one-on-one defence also our discipline and most of all our teamwork, making sure our communication is good and everyone understands what need to be done when we on the field.”
Fiji will take on Great Britain at midnight tonight in their second game and against New Zealand at 3.48 am tomorrow.
