Suliasi Vunivalu’s disappointing performance against the Crusaders may have caused him his spot during round seven of the Super Rugby Pacific against the ACT Brumbies tonight.
The former Fiji Bati winger has been dropped from the match-day 23 by Reds coach Brad Thorn just hours after being included in Eddie Jones’ Wallabies training camp.
Reports say the Reds head coach is not too impressed with the dual international star, who continued his sleepy start to the 2023 season.
Australian media reported the former NRL flyer did not train with the matchday squad on Monday.
The winger struggled to come into the game against the Crusaders.
“Contradiction is a big part of the selection. You always try to find players that you think can be world-class. It’s the ultimate task to find players who can be world-class,” Jones told reporters on Sunday.
“And I saw Vunivalu play for Melbourne Storm. I saw him play in the NRL.
“I saw bits of his game for Australia A and bits of what he did for Queensland. There are a lot of gaps in his game right now but our job as coaches is to help him fill those gaps so if you have a cattle prod in training take him out, that could help him.”
Meanwhile, Fijians Peni Ravai, Seru Uru and Filipo Daugunu start for the Reds in the 9.35pm match.
They will go up against Rob Valetini who wears the number six jersey for the Brumbies.
