Rabbitohs on course to retain rugby league cup, into quarter-finals

Fiji National Rugby League Vodafone Cup champion, the Ravoravo Rabbitohs team is on course to record a three-peat after thrashing a hapless Navosa-based Vatutoko Tigers 34-1 during the final round of the competition at Prince Charles Park in Nadi last Friday.

The Sabeto-based Rabbitohs would feature in the quarter-finals with a top seeding and remained the only undefeated team in the West Maroon Zone after recording eight wins and a plucky 14-14 draw against Tavakubu, Lautoka-based Saru Dragons, amassing an unassailable lead with 17 points.

Fellow Sabeto-based side Sabeto Roosters, former champion Saru Dragons and Nadroga-based Coastline Roos, complete a formidable top-four placings in the 10-team competition.

All the teams were tied with 14 points each only to be separated by points differential.

The West Maroon Zone Vodafone Cup quarter-finals would put Ravoravo Rabbitohs against dark horse Coastline Roos at 1.30pm this weekend.

The second quarter-final and feature match between Sabeto Roosters and the Netava Rarokoliwa-captained Saru Dragons outfit is scheduled for a 3.15pm kick-off. The quarter-finals are scheduled to be held at Churchill Park in Lautoka on Saturday.

The winners are expected to play against their counterparts from the Eastern Division in the semi-finals.

Meanwhile, the Eastern Division quarter-finals would have Nadera Panthers against Blue Gas Police Sharks at 1pm on Saturday at Bidesi Ground in Suva.

Namuaniwaqa Sea Eagles is billed against former national 7s rugby star Neumi Nanuku’s Burenitu Cowboys at Buckhurst Ground in Suva at 2.40pm.
