Playing rugby and in turn providing for their families is the crux carried ambitiously by the Dominion Brothers under-20 sevens team, as they venture into the third leg of the Fiji Sports Council organised U20 7s tournament this week.
Team manager Manasa Moto revealed this as the aim targeted by the young side, which fielded a dynamic winning performance in the tournament’s first leg in Thomson Park, Navua earlier this month.
“We nurtured them with the idea that rugby is now a well-paid sport, and they believe that it can provide for their families through the opportunities provided to them,” Mata highlighted.
Mata also stressed the importance of maintaining their discipline on the field was another message imparted with great emphasis to the team as well.
While the team advances into the Savusavu leg with these in mind, the team manager also stated their preparations throughout the week had progressed well and Mata remarked the team relished the prospect of competing in the third leg.
“The players are looking forward to the opportunity of playing in the U20 series that has been created by the Fiji Sports Council and Fiji Rugby as part of the sevens series,” Mata said.
With the tournament travelling to Vanua Levu, Mata acknowledged the increased intensity of competition from the previous two legs, as teams from Savusavu and Labasa participate as well.
The Dominion team currently hold a dominant grip over the tournament so far, winning the first and second leg of competitions in Navua and Sigatoka.
