Prasad and Edwards win at Raj Charan bowling event

The Raj Charan National Open Singles bowling tournament ended in the midst of light showers at the Suva Bowling Club yesterday afternoon.

In the men’s category, Rajinesh Prasad beat Michael Fong 21-15 to win the men’s title and Sheryl Edwards beat Litia Tikoisuva 21-20 to win the women’s title.

Rain did not hinder the progress of the tournament, as the day was riddled with overcast weather in the morning, and light showers as the afternoon came around.

Phillip Lacey, president of the Suva Bowling Club noted the competition had progressed well, despite the unfavourable weather.

“It’s been a good competition, we’ve got some very good bowls being played and it’s good to see the experienced bowlers managing it easily although the less experienced do find it a little bit more difficult,” Lacey said.

Yesterday’s weather conditions were a stark difference to Saturday’s weather, when competition first began, with skies being overcast and light winds for bowlers to compete with.

In an earlier interview on Saturday, Lacey mentioned the competition was an essential one, stating the winner had the chance to represent Fiji in bowling championships in either Australia or New Zealand.

“The depiction of the skills shown here today (Saturday) are a clear reflection that Fiji would have a strong chance at the competition,” he said.
