“WE are doing, what we think, is the right thing for them.”
These were the sentiments of the president of the Fiji Primary Schools Athletics Association, Patrick Bower, as the 2024 Tuckers Ice-Cream Fiji Primary Schools Athletics Championships came to an end at the HFC Bank Stadium on Friday.
Bower made the statement after he highlighted how participating districts came forward with complaints of varying degree and described the manner in which they were addressed and where improvement could have been made.
“Whether complaints were lodged, and we felt it was genuine, we attended to it. If not, we carried on with the program,” Bower explained.
“For example, some (districts) felt that their athletes were left out and we have to go back to the drawing board last night (Thursday night), looking into the program to see whether those athletes (were left out) and how come they didn’t get in.”
He stressed the vitality of such an approach was a paramount one, since it would set the tone for future competitions.
“But to the best of our ability, we are doing what we think is the right thing for them and here it is at this level, it’s critical that they do it right because that is what will go with them into the future,” Bower stressed.
Meanwhile, Suva One won the boys category with 12 gold, nine silver and six bronze medals while Nadi won the girls category with 18 gold, nine silver and seven bronze medals.
