A BIG change is how former national rugby 7s rep Semi Kunatani has described the Fiji Airways Fiji men’s team under new head coach and former skipper Osea Kolinisau.

Kunatani dubbed “The Beast” made the statement in an interview with The Fiji Times, following the 34-5 win of his side, the TEMC Warriors over Gold Coast Senibiau in the cup final of the Mick’s Fiji Tours & Transfers Vatulele 7s at the Vatulele District School ground on Friday.

“It is a big change, a massive change has taken place and we are thankful for the work that has been done,” Kunatani said.

While he applauded the effort put in by Kolinisau to turn the national 7s team’s 22-match losing trail of uncertainty into a gradually fruitful one, he admitted there were hurdles to leap over before success would follow.

“However, if we were all given a chance to hold on to that position (head coach), there are bound to be challenges in its early stages,” he said.

Kunatani’s sentiments echo those made by former teammate Jerry Tuwai, who speak about the improvement in the national team’s level of play in the Dubai 7s, in an interview with The Fiji Times earlier this month.

“We can see the improvement, the change of culture and system and how the boys played,” Tuwai said at the time.

Kunatani, Kolinisau, and Tuwai were part of the winning 7s team that won Fiji’s first gold medal at the 2016 Rio Olympics.
