Legge gets interim role

THE Vodafone Fijiana XV meets the Australian Wallaroos side next month and a piece of the puzzle towards that has been set in place with the appointment of Mike Legge as the team’s interim head coach.

Legge will be the interim head coach during the March-April Test window.

His appointment to the role is expected to add depth and experience as part of other key appointments made by the Fiji Rugby Union for the national women’s team.

Speaking of his appointment, he described being confirmed for the role as a privilege.

“I’m just privileged to be in this position,” Legge told the media on Friday.

“Just really honoured and blessed to be in this position, just to lead this team in the interim.”

He recalled being part of the women’s program at the union since 2020 and thanked the FRU chairman John Sanday and chief executive Koli Sewabu, general manager high performance Naca Cawanibuka and Bill Gadolo for their faith and guidance in him.

Meanwhile, Cawanibuka welcomed his appointment and relayed what his appointment would bring for the team.

“His key role will focus around the team’s attacking framework, match preparation and tactical delivery and also overall program leadership,” Cawanibuka said.

“His appointment ensures continuity within the program and his previous experience with the coaching team for the (Vodafone) Fijiana XV at last year’s (Women’s) Rugby World Cup will ensure that there’s consistency in the headship of the team and coaching staff.”

Meanwhile, the Fijiana XV meet the Wallaroos at the GIO Stadium in Canberra, Australia on March 27.
