SERVICE to the nation in any form requires devotion and the unceasing desire to be the best, something Fiji Airways Fiji men’s 7s player Sevuloni Mocenacagi has kept himself in line with.
This weekend, the winger and forward will become the Fijian 7s player who has made the most appearances at the HSBC SVNS with a record of 65, surpassing the 64 appearances made by former 7s skipper and two-time Olympic gold medallist Jerry Tuwai.
Mocenacagi was part of the dynamic crop of players unearthed by former Fiji 7s coach Ben Ryan, in an era where the game’s impact was so widespread and profound, it became a modern golden era of rugby in Fiji.
Hailing from Nukuilau in the highlands of Navosa and playing for Yamacia, he has come a long way since those early days when his brilliance shone through his agility on the field and the ingenuity of a force championed by Ben Ryan and his sevens gladiators.
Since making his debut in the 2015/16 season of the HSBC SVNS in Dubai and making the cut for the Trans-Tasman legs in that season, the ride to this point has been a steady rise for him.
His inclusion in the current squad to Vancouver years on since debuting is testament to his ongoing commitment towards being ready for the call to don the white jumper.
Tomorrow, Mocenacagi continues the story that began more than a decade ago when the prowess of his talent and skills to deliver and captivate the world over was affirmed.
