With students now back in school after almost nine months, it is important to re-engage them in activities that will stimulate excitement among children to help in their development.
Minister for Education Premila Kumar made this comment at the virtual Fiji Scouts Association’s World Founders Day on Tuesday.
She said the COVID-19 pandemic had not only affected people but other influences and temptations had become societal problems in recent years.
She cited social media as an example saying apart from its positive influence, it had also become a huge negative influence, and a spreader of misinformation.
Mrs Kumar scouting had, to a large extent, provided the young people with the opportunity to adapt to the changing world, full of its challenges and temptations.
She said the Fiji Scouts Association had been very important in the lives of thousands of young Fijian people and teachers.
“It has not only played a pivotal role in building the confidence and self-worth of our youngsters but has also helped instil important moral values, which have shaped the character of each scout member, defining them as an individual,” Mrs Kumar said.
