The Republic of the Fiji Military Forces (RFMF) says it will send an investigation team to the United Nations Disengagement Observer Force (UNDOF) in the Golan Heights Syria, to conduct its own Board of Inquiry concerning drug smuggling allegations laid against three Fijian soldiers.
Commander RFMF Major-General Ro Jone Kalouniwai had revealed in a statement yesterday that three RFMF soldiers serving with the Fiji Battalion under UNDOF in Golan Heights were detained by Israeli authorities last Sunday for allegations of drug smuggling.
He said the soldiers were detained at the Jordan and Israeli border.
The soldiers were returning to the Golan Heights from Jordan where they had gone on leave.
Maj-Gen Kalouniwai said the headquarters of the Fiji Battalion in UNDOF was liaising with the Israeli authorities regarding the matter.
“The RFMF maintains a zero-tolerance stance on any criminal activities by its members. All soldiers concerned will be dealt with in accordance with the military law and laws of Fiji,” he said.
