Update: 3:40PM WITH all the celebrations planned throughout the four policing divisions, Police are urging members of the public to take all necessary safety precautionary measures.
The usual New Years tradition should be practiced with caution such as the use of fire crackers, bamboo guns and throwing of water.
Fiji Police chief of operations ACP Rusiate Tudravu said officers were now going around creating awareness and warning communities about the dangers of throwing water on moving vehicles because of its serious safety concern.
“Despite advisories and warnings, we receive reports about this practice every year and we are urging parents and guardians to closely monitor their children’s activities as it is often young children and youths who are involved,” ACP Tudravu said.
