A 5.0 MAGNITUDE earthquake was recorded in the Lau region this morning.
The Seismology Unit of the Mineral Resources department stated the earthquake occurred at a depth of 532km.
The seismic activity was located 454km Southwest from Ono-i-Lau, 617km Southwest from Nuku’alofa in Tonga, and 730km South-Southeast from Suva.
The department stated that the moderate earthquake occurred at a deep source location and did not pose any immediate threat to the region.
