Police have charged a 19-year-old teenager from Naqara, Taveuni, for his alleged involvement in a number of criminal activities on the island in July.

The young man has been charged with one count of attempted arson for allegedly trying to burn down the Macuata Muslim League building, one count of arson for allegedly setting Ali’s Fashion Shop on fire, and a count of burglary for allegedly stealing items worth more than $5000 from Courts Fiji Taveuni.

Police said investigators had recovered more than $4000 worth of items believed to have been stolen.

He will be produced at the Taveuni Magistrates Court today.

Police said they also arrested a 25-year-old accomplice yesterday and was now in custody.
